The 17-strong energy team at legal giant Carey has an enviable reputation for its expertise in energy and infrastructure projects. Acting for both developers and financial entities, the track record of the full-service firm’s practice group includes a raft of significant projects, including coal, natural gas, hydroelectric power, liquefied natural gas, solar, wind and geothermal mandates. The ‘extremely knowledgeable’ practice is also home to specialists in floating storage and regasification; while its broad array of services ranges from regulatory issues, project development, and the negotiation of energy supply and infrastructure use agreements, to project financing, M&A and joint ventures. Co-heading the group, Juan Francisco Mackenna’s broad expertise encompasses electricity contracts, renewable energy accreditations, electricity transmissions and gas transportation, along with infrastructure projects, land use permits, environmental matters, regulatory litigation, and liquid fuel and natural gas contracts; José Miguel Bustamante focuses on generation plants, transmission facilities, infrastructure works and green hydrogen projects; and José Tomás Hurley advises on energy projects (and associated infrastructure), electricity and fuel supply and transportation contracts, non-conventional renewable energy accreditations, and power sector-related regulatory, contentious and transactional work. At associate level, Pablo Morales‘ practice covers energy supply, transmission and transportation issues, as well as energy-related contracts, tenders and permits. Morales is additionally experienced in green hydrogen projects, battery energy storage systems, and electricity and gas regulation.
