Full-service legal giant Carey houses seasoned pharmacists and biochemists, in addition to highly-rated lawyers. The multidisciplinary life sciences group advises a range of clients from the healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnological, in vitro diagnostic medical device, telemedicine, food supplement, nutritional product and foodstuff sectors. It also has industry expertise in alcoholic beverages, animal feed, cosmetics, veterinary products and agrochemicals. Recent highlights include advising global biotechnology company Biogen on marketing authorisation applications for innovative drugs (through an accelerated procedure). The life sciences practice is co-led by Guillermo Carey, an adviser to major pharmaceutical and biotech innovation laboratories, whose track record includes significant life sciences and healthcare-related regulatory, product liability and IP matters; and Ignacio Gillmore, who focuses on regulatory, administrative, transactional, product liability, compliance and IP work. In the firm’s associate ranks, senior Cristina Busquets advises on the regulation of food, beverages and animal feed, including importation, commercialisation and advertising issues; Camila Suárez‘s career includes a three-year, part-time secondment to German multinational science and technology company Merck; and Mariana Guzmán and Isabel Cantillana are experienced regulatory, pharmaceutical, biotech and public law practitioners.
