The TMT and data privacy team at Barros & Errázuriz is consistently sought out by fixed, mobile and satellite operators, as well as digital application, internet service and technology providers. The full-service practice is also experienced in relation to e-commerce, social media platforms, over-the-top (OTT) services, telecoms infrastructure companies, and free-to-air and paid television service providers; its representative expertise includes obtaining related regulatory permits and licenses. The five-member group is also increasingly mandated to advise on 5G work, satellite broadband issues and high-stakes technology projects. The team’s principal figures are longstanding TMT specialist José Ignacio Ovalle, an adviser on the regulatory and commercial aspects of the telecoms and technology industries, who also acts in a range of TMT-related judicial and administrative proceedings; and Andrés Rodríguez, who focuses on telecoms, IT and data privacy matters. In the firm’s associate pool, Magdalena Rojas' recent experience includes obtaining the regulatory permits for the provision of telecoms services by multinational satellite companies; and negotiating the agreements for the licensing and implementation of software by a well-known university; and Fernanda Irrazabal's career includes a data privacy-related internship in Barcelona, her remit involving advising companies on compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
