The tax group at Arias draws on the combined bench strength of seven offices throughout the region to provide a comprehensive service to major multinationals and financial institutions (including Chevron, Citibank and Walmart) across such sectors as retail, oil and gas, tech, hospitality and banking. The group’s full service covers a diverse spectrum of matters, including transfer pricing, due diligence and tax planning, compliance and litigation. The practice is led by seasoned tax litigator Luis Barahona, who draws on his experience as a former director of the Internal Revenue Services and head of El Salvador’s negotiating committee on the double taxation treaty with Spain to assist with fiscal planning, precautionary legal audits and tax risk detection. Senior counsel César López brings expertise to customs and municipal tax matters, and represents clients in complex tax litigation.
