Matthias Waters is a patent attorney at COHAUSZ & FLORACK and advises national and international companies and start-ups in the IT and mobile phone communications in all areas of intellectual property rights. Clients benefit from his high technical expertise, analytical skills and goal-oriented approach.

A particular focus lies in advising and representing his clients in patent application proceedings in complex technology areas and the international coordination of such proceedings. In addition, he has represented the interests of well-known mobile communications and IT companies in many patent infringement disputes – often concerning standard essential patents (SEPs) – and successfully supported them in the enforcement of their valuable intellectual property rights both in and out of court.

During his studies of electrical engineering and information technology at RWTH Aachen, Germany with a stay at the Technical University Chalmers in Gothenburg, Sweden, he gained a great deal of practical experience in communications engineering, circuit design and microsystems technology. After completing his studies and several stays abroad, including in the USA and Mexico, he began his training in intellectual property rights at COHAUSZ & FLORACK. In 2013 he was admitted as a German patent attorney and as a representative before the European Patent Office and became a patent attorney at COHAUSZ & FLORACK. He has been a partner in the firm since 2018.
