Labour and employment

Drawing on the firm’s wider international presence, Dentons is well-placed to support multinational clients on their labour and employment matters. The team has expertise in workplace investigations, litigation and occupational health and safety, and is under the joint leadership of Andy Pushalik in Toronto and Arianne Bouchard in Montreal. Pushalik has notable proficiency in collective bargaining and disputes, whilst Bouchard is geared to support on hiring, terminations and human rights. Other key members of the team include Calgary-based April Kosten and Jennifer A. Thompson, Vancouver-based Eleni Kassaris, and Montreal-based Virginie Dandurand.

Highlight-Mandate

Representing Suncor Energy Services Inc. on a human rights case involving the termination of an employee following a restructuring while the complainant was 4 months pregnant and had returned from a leave of absence.
Representing Syncrude Canada Ltd. in a human rights complaint filed against the employer by a former employee alleging discrimination after the employee failed to return to work at the conclusion of a personal leave of absence and the requirements for companies with 24-hour operations to accommodate employees for shift work insomnia.
Advised Scholastic on all employment, benefits, and pensions matters related to Scholastic acquiring 100% of the economic interest and a minority of voting rights in 9 Story Media Group for C$250m from an affiliate of private equity firm ZMC and other selling shareholders.
