Restructuring and insolvency

Norton Rose Fulbright ‘combines top class restructuring counsel with excellent litigation’ to advise clients on cross-border restructuring and insolvency issues from Canada. The practice is noted for its creditor-focused approach, advising creditors on CCAA proceedings and fillings. It also advises on debtor side issues and distressed M&A transactions. Another area of note is the firm’s expertise in reverse vesting order structures (RVO), handling a myriad of RVO transactions. Guillaume Michaud leads the practice from Montréal and is experienced in handling restructuring and insolvency transactions and litigation with a focus on debtor-led restructurings. Evan Cobb resides in Toronto and represents clients in informal restructurings and CCAA proceedings. Jennifer Stam is also a key member of the Toronto team and handles national and international CCAA restructurings. Highlight-Mandate

Advised Fiera Private Debt on a creditor-led CCAA proceeding of The Halifax Herald and Saltwire Network.
Advised a syndicate of senior lenders, in particular the National Bank of Canada, on a competing CCAA application where a creditor-led application seeking the implementation of a genuine creditor-led restructuring was approved by the Court.
Advised Ernst & Young on an effort to recover funds from a former director and officer of Bondfield and his co-conspirators who had carried out a false invoice scheme.
